Stewart Black is a Sous Chef at Prestige Catering and Event Hire who has a love of Asian cuisine, and enjoys cooking mouth-watering food for people from all walks of life.
He received his training at the stunning 5 star Cable Beach Club Resort in Broome, and his love of the ocean sees him currently living it up on a 50-foot Ketch in Mangles Bay, Rockingham.
We recently sat down with him to learn a little bit more about his eventful career, and what he enjoys about his job.
What’s Your Favourite Type of Food
I enjoy all types of food and love discovering new flavours. However, after spending my training years in Broome with its mix of cultures I have developed a love for Asian fusion cuisine and the blending and balancing of flavours that this style of cooking involves.
What’s the Best Food You’ve Ever Eaten?
“I love Thai beef salad with its balance of hot, sour and sweet, fresh herbs and crisp vegetables. I’ve tasted many versions but still think mine is the best!” he says with a smile.
What’s the Most Memorable Moment From Your Career So Far?
“I was lucky enough to cook for Prince Charles at his 67th birthday celebration on the Cottesloe Foreshore, when he visited Australia in 2015.”
Do You Have a Most Embarrassing Moment?
“When I was cooking for Prince Charles’ birthday celebration, I broke the drawstring on my chef’s pants. My pants unfortunately did go down, however they were then held up by the ever versatile ‘glad wrap belt. Thankfully Prince Charles was not nearby when this happened’”
What do You Enjoy the Most About Working at Prestige?
“I love how clean and organised everything is, but most of all I love the great atmosphere, and being surrounded by colleagues who share my passion for food.”
